I'm creating a spreadsheet to prepare for my first competitive audit and re-reading a goal I entered, "Compare the prospective customer experience of each app (i.e., how do they convince a person to give their services a try?)." Hey wait... do I mean 'convince' or 'persuade'?
The words happen to be fresh in my mind, I just finished listening to "The One-in-a-Million Boy" by Monica Wood.
“Convince is for thought; persuade is for action. You couldn’t convince me that taping my horrible old-lady voice was a good idea, but you persuaded me to do it anyway, didn’t you, you little dickens?”
(SUCH a good book!)
Part of the audit is to compare first impressions. Persuade comes before convince, doesn't it-? You need to persuade me to pause my swiping and click on your ad or post. Then you need to convince me to buy your product. Or ha, to like your 27th dog-and-cat snuggling video.
What kind of impression do I want my app to make? Just one of many questions I'll be pondering over the next few weeks.
